Actor Christopher Lee weighs in on the Daniel Craig as 007 debate

28-Oct-2006 • Actor News

Legendary actor Christopher Lee believes James Bond debutant Daniel Craig has got his work cut out playing the famous secret agent - reports ITV.

Lee, who played baddie Scaramanga in The Man With The Golden Gun, believes its very difficult to fill the shoes of 007.

He said: "Playing Bond is not an easy thing. For me the best Bond so far has been Pierce Brosnan because he had all the necessary qualities and he wasn't too brutal or too heavy.

"I have no idea what Daniel Craig will be like. Some people are complaining that he's blonde but I don't know how he'll cope."

But Craig has been receiving rave reviews from his love-interest in Casino Royale, Caterina Murino, who plays Bond-girl Solange.

Murino revealed that Craig had been upset by the volume of criticism that greeted his selection, but insisted that filming went well and the end product would satisfy film fans when it is released in November.

She said: "He's a great actor. Casino Royale is the first book Ian Fleming wrote and it means we see how James Bond became James Bond.

"Daniel is giving to this James Bond something else we never saw before. When he's going to kill someone, he looks like a real killer, when he kisses me, when he makes love, he's so sexy. You never saw a James Bond like this."

The new film, directed by Martin Campbell, is due for release in the UK on November 16.
