Northstar, California celebrates new ski lift James Bond style

05-Jan-2007 • Event

California's Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort will host a grand opening celebration of its new Tahoe Zephyr Express six-pack chairlift on Friday, complete with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The 007 James Bond-themed event will take place at the bottom of the ski and snowboard resort's new lift, with lift operators dressed to the nines in black tie apparel, and the terminal decked out in Bond-themed décor - reports FTO.

Resort guests will have an opportunity to participate in grand opening celebration activities including a Bond/Bond Girl look-alike contest, with a chance to win lift tickets and gift cards valid at restaurant and retail stores at Northstar Resort. Also, the first 100 people to ride the Tahoe Zephyr Express will receive a special gift from the resort.

Skiers and riders can also participate in a geocaching event, an outdoor treasure-hunting game using their Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers to find specific places located on new terrain and features within Northstar Resort’s ski trails. For those who don’t own a GPS receiver, a limited number of units will be available for rental at The North Face retail store in the Village at Northstar. The coordinates of the places to be found will also be available at The North Face. Participants who locate all of the coordinates will receive a certificate for a complimentary skate rental at the Village skating rink, and will be entered into a drawing with prizes to include SnowRanger GPS ski resort maps from Mountain Dynamics, Inc. and a GPS receiver from Magellan Inc.

The Tahoe Zephyr Express, whose base is situated directly across from the mid-mountain Day Lodge, whisks riders up nearly 1,050 vertical feet in just five minutes. It accesses 13 total trails and 137 acres of total terrain, including 60 acres of new intermediate terrain. Included in this terrain is a new mile-long run called Drifter that connects guests directly from the top of the six-pack to the Backside.

Thanks to `Jack Wade` for the alert.
