James Bond and Classic Spies Film Festival in NYC
Thirteen James Bond classics will be shown on the big screen at New York City's famed Film Forum Theater beginning this weekend. During the two-week run, fans can enjoy Bond double features as well as see other classic spy movies from the 1960s that are rarely shown theatrically.
Lee Pfeiffer, co-author of The Essential James Bond and publisher of Cinema Retro magazine, will introduce the 7:30 Pm screening of Our Man Flint on Thursday, May 3 preceded by a rare big screen showing of the first Matt Helm film The Silencers starring Dean Martin. Pfeiffer will be joined by film historian and Cinema Retro contributor Eddy Friedfeld. Pfeiffer and Friedfeld recorded the audio commentary tracks for Fox's recently released spy movie classics that include both Flint movies, The Quiller Memorandum and The Chairman (UK title: The Most Dangerous Man in the World).
"The Film Forum festival of spy movies is a real treat for any baby boomer who has not had the opportunity to see these films on the big screen since their initial release", said Pfeiffer. "The Bonds are always a pleasure to see in a theatrical venue, but it's highly unusual to have other films such as the Flints and Matt Helm series as well as the 1967 version of Casino Royale screened in 35mm. I don't think spy fans in the New York area will be getting much work done in the next two weeks!" Cinema Retro is providing some original trailers and original promotional materials from the magazine's archives to enhance the film festival. The latest issue of the magazine coincidentally features a cover story titled The Unseen Flint that provides rare and unpublished photos from Our Man Flint and In Like Flint. (For more info visit
