Updated information on the Bond 22 scenes filming in Siena, Italy
Some further details on the report that the
22nd James Bond film will feature scenes around the Palio race in Siena, Italy have come to light today from the original Italian newspaper article.
Unlike the article in The Times, the Il Giornale piece did not state that the chase sequence forms part of the movie's climax, but added that there were unconfirmed claims that 007 will chase the villain across the rooftops on foot, after negotiating Siena's narrow alleys in his Aston Martin. The Palio race will reportedly serve as the backdrop to the mayhem, rather than being involved in the action in any way. One of the key locations will be the 'bottini', a network of tunnels that run under the city and cannot be visited by the public without permission. Local press claim that the council hopes the use of the location will enhance Siena's image, but none of the city's motifs were permitted to be filmed.
The Italian press reinforced that the shooting taking place on Thursday 16th August for Bond 22 would be of a 'documentary' style, with the production not interfering in any way with the traditional race. The town council of Siena have granted permission for principal photography on Bond 22 to shoot in the region between January and July 2008.
