`Goldfinger` Aston Martin on display at Pebble Beach classic cars show

18-Aug-2007 • Event

The high life will be on display on Pebble Beach's famed golf course this weekend as the classic cars of the 57th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance chase away golfers once again this Sunday - reports CBS5.

Car owners from around the world, 12 countries to be exact, will transport their museum-quality cars to Pebble Beach's legendary 18th fairway for display.

The estimated value of the 190 cars is over $200,000 million. Among the cars to be shown are 38 Aston Martins, including two driven by famous Englishmen, Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and secret agent 007 himself, James Bond (in the film "Goldfinger'').

Cars will compete in 24 classes including Best of Show, Historic Hot Rods, Ferrari, Rolls Royce prewar and more.

Jay Leno, who won a competition in 2004 with his 1916 Crane-Simplex Model 5 Holbrook Skiff, will do commentary and award raffle prizes at the event.

This year's hot competition is going to be the preservation class where cars are presented in their original condition, event spokesman Jeff Green said. One car in the competition was shipped to the United States from Italy in 1950 and was eventually buried in a garage under blankets and carpet only to be discovered in 2000 with 4,000 miles on it.

The oldest car that will be on display is an 1897 Henriod Duc Kellner Phaeton, owned by Roy Fisher of Sussex, England.

Not all the cars on display are from the past. Several concept cars will also be on display, including a Maserati Granturismo, a Chrysler Nassau Concept and a Callaway C16 Speedster.

The Concours was first held in 1950 with 37 cars. Now the event is considered one of the world's premier displays of rare and beautiful cars on earth.

The event has also raised more than $9 million for charity. Other events surround the Concours, for anyone interested in more info visit: http://www.pebblebeachconcours.net. Tickets are available to the general public for $150 in advance.
