British forces in the Gulf name the latest military operation after Bond, James Bond

31-Mar-2003 • Bond News

According to Sky News, the latest coalition operation against Iraqi forces in the Persian Gulf was named after Bond, James Bond.

British troops near Basra have captured an Iraqi general, while Royal Marines discovered chemical suits in raids on Iraqi forces.

They made the discovery during a mission called Operation James - after the infamous spy James Bond.

Targets were given names including Pussy Galore, Goldfinger and Blofeld, all characters in the 007 movies.

Referring to the name of the operation, a war reporter said: "People in the command post are, to continue the analogy, shaken by the resistance coming their way - but not stirred by the task ahead."
