Mexican actor Joaquin Cosío joins the ranks of Bond 22 villains, Bolivia confirmed as location

18-Dec-2007 • Quantum Of Solace

It appears that the 22nd James Bond film will feature a gaggle of goons facing off against 007. As well as Mathieu Amalric and Anatole Taubman confirming their roles as villain and villain's side-kick respectively, Mexican actor Joaquin Cosío has now confirmed he will play a baddie in the upcoming film too.

"There are several antagonists [in the film] and I am one of them. I play General Medrano, the enemy of Bond in Latin America, although there are other villains who are Europeans."

Cosío said he is "very happy" because he was selected from a global casting search, and that he beat out fellow actors such as Daniel Jimenez Cacho to the role.

"I am really very happy because a film of this scale, a film of this level, will have the participation of a Mexican actor."

Cosío won a "Best Male" nomination at the annual Ariel awards in 2005 for his performance in "Matando Cabos" ("Killing Rope").

Despite landing the role, secrecy still surrounds the script and production plan. "I still do not know the [shooting] order, I do not know exactly how my scenes are going to work, but I understand that I am going to shoot in Panama, Bolivia and London." He also confirmed that the shooting will be in English.

This is the first confirmation that production will be heading to the South American country of Bolivia, along with Panama.

Happy to be sharing credit with Italian actor Giancarlo Giannini who returns as Rene Mathis, as well as the British actress Judi Dench as M, Cosío said that although the film "is a global showcase it will hopefully give me the opportunity to do other work" but he does not sees it as a staging ground to get to Hollywood.

"For now it is not in my head to go there (Hollywood), but this is a movie made by Hollywood, but I am quite happy with my projects which I have some door at the national cinema," said the actor.
