The Iron Curtain falls on Devil May Care, no publisher for new Bond book in Russia

16-Jan-2008 • Literary

With the Berlin Wall a fading memory, and M branding James Bond a "relic of the Cold War" over a decade ago, you would have been forgiven for thinking things had changed in Russia.

Not so for the publishing prospects of 007.

Reports indicate that there will be no publisher in Russia for the upcoming James Bond continuation novel "Devil May Care" by author Sebastian Faulks. The book will be released in 20 other major countries in May.

Sources cite poor sales for previous Bond titles as the reason for Russian publisher's reluctance to take on 007's latest adventure.

More recently, the Russian publisher for Charlie Higson's Young Bond series stopped after the second novel in the five-book series due to lack of demand in the country.

Thanks to `Leamas` for the alert.
