Bolivians upset about drug-traffickers association in `Quantum of Solace`

07-Apr-2008 • Quantum Of Solace

The new James Bond film "Quantum Of Solace" has reportedly sparked another row yesterday, when it was accused of branding Bolivians "drug traffickers".

A Bolivian minister has filed a formal complaint attacking the "stigmatisation" of his countrymen, according to the Daily Record.

Deputy culture minister Pablo Groux is also 'furious' that scenes supposedly set in Bolivia were filmed in Chile.

Filming wrapped in the country last week.

Groux wrote: "This stigma should not characterise the Bolivians, not even in the fictional context of the Bond production. It is unnecessary to use locations which are not Bolivian."

Bolivia is the world's third-largest producer of coca-leaf, the raw material in cocaine.

Producers commented at the Chile press conference last week, "Many films are shot in one country and then appear in films as another country."
