James Bond is back in book form with `Devil May Care`
Sebastian Faulks puts a whole new spin on James Bond with "Devil May Care" - reports
USA Today.
What it's about: A new James Bond novel by Englishman Sebastian Faulks, writing in the style of Bond's creator, Ian Fleming, who died in 1964. The publisher is keeping the plot a secret but says it's set during the Cold War in exotic locations around the world.
Why it's hot: It will be released on what would have been Fleming's 100th birthday as part of a centennial celebration. Faulks is an acclaimed literary novelist, unlike Fleming, who was known more for his plots than style.
Memorable line: "Come in 007," said M. "It's good to see you back."
Quick bio: The former journalist and columnist, 55, lives in London. His novels include a trilogy set in France during and between World War I and II: The Girl at Lion d'Or, Birdsong and Charlotte Gray. (Cate Blanchett starred in the film version of Charlotte Gray.)
Fun fact: Faulks hadn't read Fleming's novels since he was 13 but on re-reading was surprised: "I expected them to be a bit rough, just pulp fiction, but was immediately caught by the suspense."
Favorite Bond novel: Moonraker (1955): "Bond doesn't sleep with the girl, but it's terrific."
Favorite Bond movie: From Russia With Love (1963) with Sean Connery, "my favorite Bond," and Lotte Lenya, the acclaimed actress and singer, as the villainous Rosa Klebb, "a nice touch."
Quote: "Bond was a sexual predator, but on the other hand, he was more emotionally susceptible than you might think. He actually fell in love with a few of the girls and indeed, even married one."
