007 scores well in national film survey
James Bond has scored well in a national survey about favourite films and actors.
The survey saw former 007 Sir Sean Connery and Sir Anthony Hopkins sharing the title of Britain's favourite actor while Dame Judi Dench, who play MI6 chief M in the series, was named best actress.
Four Weddings and a Funeral beat off stiff competition to be named the best British movie of all time. Richard Curtis's 1994 romantic comedy took 22% of the vote in the poll for Virgin Media, squeaking past Monty Python's Life of Brian by just 1%.
Third was Trainspotting with 15% of the vote. The film, which followed a group of friends in Edinburgh, was controversial because of its graphic depiction of heroin use.
Casino Royale, starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, made it into fourth place with 10% and Guy Ritchie's gangster film Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels came fifth with 8%.
Dame Judi took nearly a third (29%) of the votes in the best actress poll, more than double that of her nearest rivals Dame Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, both on 14%.
The survey of 1,000 adults was carried out on June 25 and 26 by Onepoll.com for Virgin Media. It was commissioned to mark the closing date for film makers to enter the Virgin Media Shorts competition.
