`O.H.M.S.S.` in final ten vote for Nation`s Favourite Soundtrack

23-Jul-2008 • Bond News

Composer John Barry'sc score for the 1969 James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" has made the final top ten shortlist for Classic FM's 'The Nation's Favourite Soundtrack' poll.

The station said, "film soundtracks are among the most popular symphonic works composed in the 21st Century providing an excellent introduction to classical music. It was difficult choosing 10 of the best when there are so many fabulous soundtracks to choose from, but scores by the likes of John Williams, John Barry, Maurice Jarre and Ennio Morricone already rank highly in the Classic FM top 300 Hall of Fame and made it onto our list. For pure cinematic gold, rousing theme tunes to classics such as Chariot's of Fire, The Magnificent Seven and The Dam Busters had to be included too."

The final ten contenders are:

The Magnificent Seven (Elmer Bernstein)
Star Wars (John Williams)
Lawrence of Arabia (Maurice Jarre)
Dr Zhivago (Maurice Jarre)
The Mission (Ennio Morricone)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (John Barry)
Vertigo (Bernard Herrmann)
Born Free (John Barry)
The Dam Busters (Leighton Lucas)
Chariots of Fire (Vangelis)
