Aston Martin DBS racks up the awards in 2008

13-Dec-2008 • Bond Style

Aston Martin’s DBS sports car credentials have been further vindicated by automotive experts and public alike over the last month, with the award of three top accolades from critics around the world - reports The Auto Channel.

In the UK, viewers of the Dave television channel voted the DBS as not only their favourite super car, but also their overall top car of 2008. Taking an impressive 42% of the supercar vote, the DBS saw off tough competition from the Porsche 911 GT2, Maserati GranTurismo, Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and Jaguar XKR-S to take the top honours.

In Germany, acclaimed automotive magazine, Auto Motor und Sport recognised the DBS with their ‘Most Beautiful Car’ award. Readers of the magazine voted the DBS as their favourite with an incredible 54% of the vote beating the Porsche 911 GT2 and the Ferrari 430 Scuderia.

Finally, in Japan, the DBS was last week awarded the prestigious ‘Consumers’ Choice Award for Sports Car of the Year’. The DBS took the top spot comfortably with over 10,000 more votes than other competitors in the category including the Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe and the Audi S5.

Dr. Ulrich Bez, Chief Executive Officer of Aston Martin said: “The DBS has proven a real success with our customers and exceeded our initial expectations. It has been globally recognised as the ultimate in Aston Martin performance and technology.”

The DBS is currently taking a starring role on the big screen alongside James Bond in Quantum of Solace – a second successive appearance for the DBS following the global debut of the car in Casino Royale, released in 2006 and is now synonymous with the modern 007.

Providing customers further choice, a series of enhancements were introduced to the DBS during 2008 including the introduction of the class-leading Bang & Olufsen Beosound DBS entertainment system as standard and the availability of a Touchtronic automatic gearbox.

In October, Aston Martin and Jaeger Le-Coultre continued their long-standing collaboration with the launch of a unique time-piece exclusively available to DBS customers. Positioned as the world’s first watch capable of locking and unlocking a car, engineers from both marques worked closely together to achieve a feat of miniaturisation integrating the DBS’s transponder into the body of the watch.

The Aston Martin DBS is a 6.0-litre V12 powered, race-bred, two-seater shaped by the aerodynamic demands of high performance, with an exquisite interior that marries beautifully hand-finished materials with the very latest in performance technology.

Aston Martin unveiled the production version of the DBS at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August 2007. The car is hand-built at Aston Martin’s global headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire in the UK alongside the Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage.
