Bond girl Britt Ekland raising awareness for dementia sufferers

08-Jan-2009 • Actor News

James Bond actress Britt Ekland has offered her support to people suffering with dementia at the launch of the Bupa Great Manchester Run today - reports In the News.

Ekland has publicly lent her support to Alzheimer's Society, the nominated charity for the 2009 event, in their plans to raise £1 million.

The actress' mother suffered with the condition and today she urged people to help raise money for the charity.

"My mother was struck by dementia in her early 60s. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing; it is caused by diseases of the brain and robs people of their lives," she said at the launch.

"My family and I cared for my mother through the 11 tortuous years she was ill. I felt totally helpless. Dementia is a cruel condition. That's why I've made it my duty to spread awareness and help others living with dementia and those who care for them."

The Bupa Great Manchester Run is a 10K run which takes place on Sunday May 17th and from today people can sign-up to run for a charity of their choice.
