`Quantum of Solace` helps lift Amazon profits
Blockbuster sales of the latest James Bond film "Quantum of Solace" on DVD and Blu-Ray helped Amazon's profits shoot up.
It was the internet retailer's biggest seller in the past three months, said UK boss Brian McBride yesterday.
The US giant boosted sales 18% in the first quarter to £3.3billion with profits up 24% to £121million.
The group refuses to give UK figures but McBride says they were "in line" with the group - figures High Street traders would "give their right arm for".
He says one reason it is bucking the trend is that the weak pound is driving orders for electronic goods such as iPods, cameras, and TVs from Ireland and Europe.
