Pierce Brosnan visits the White House to help save the whale
Pierce Brosnan left the West Wing shortly before noon Tuesday after receiving his first tour of the White House and meeting with staff to discuss the preservation of whales.
Brosnan told
POLITICO (click for video) he didn't meet President Barack Obama but was thoroughly impressed by his first glimpse inside the White House.
"I've always viewed it from afar so to be in the hallowed halls was ... truly an honor,â he said.
The former James Bond actor caused a stir among the press corps â male and female alike. A scrum of cameras, both personal and professional, followed Brosnan as he made his way to the East Wing.
And apparently not all of Brosnan's fans inside the White House got to meet him. Michael Strautmanis came rushing out of the West Wing just minutes after Brosnan had left and was posing for pictures with a few other staffers.
"I wanted to be able to say this in public," Strautmanis said as he stretched out his hand, "It's good to see you again."
Brosnan said he believes he has many sympathetic ears in the administration on an issue he and his wife took up 16 years ago.
âThe administration and the president is very sensitive and forward thinking to the cause,â he said, adding that he pressed the White House to open up communication on whaling among Norway, Japan and Iceland. âMost people think theyâve been saved but they havenât. The slaughter still goes on.â
âThis is a golden opportunity,â he added.
