Shaken Not Stirred film festival kicks off in Belfast, Northern Ireland, tomorrow

12-Jun-2009 • Event

Fans of legendary movie superspy James Bond will be in for a treat from this weekend as a season of classic 007 movies kicks off at the Queen’s Film Theatre - reports the Belfast Telegraph.

Four of the best Bond movies of all time will be shown as part of the Shaken, Not Stirred season, which begins tomorrow.

The mini-festival is being held to celebrate the centenary of the birth of legendary Bond movie producer Albert R. ‘Cubby’ Broccoli.

“James Bond is one of cinema’s most iconic and enduring characters,” said Susan Picken, QFT Manager.

“We are thrilled to give QFT audiences the chance to see the world’s most famous spy in a way that would make ‘Q’ himself proud – remastered, in a sparkling new digital format and back on the big screen.”

The season opens tomorrow (Saturday June 13) with Dr. No, starring Sean Connery in the lead role, and famous for the image of a bikini-clad Ursula Andress emerging from the sea.

Considered by Broccoli as one of the best Fleming stories and Connery’s favourite Bond, From Russia with Love also takes to the screen this Sunday.

Meanwhile, Goldfinger, considered by many as the quintessential Bond film, features such iconic Bond legends as the Aston Martin car, and the memorable theme tune by Shirley Bassey.

And Australian actor George Lazenby steps into Bond’s shoes for once only in the action-packed On Her Majesty’s Secret Service on Sunday, June 28.
