Bond girl Rosamund Pike presents awards at Corby Business Academy

11-Jul-2009 • Actor News

A touch of Hollywood glamour was added to a school's annual awards night when a Bond Girl dropped by to hand out the prizes.
Rosamund Pike, who starred with Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day, was guest speaker at Corby Business Academy's prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday - reports The Evening Telegraph.

The famous actress handed out the prizes to talented students before entertaining the audience with an inspirational speech about setting out to achieve dreams.

Principal Andrew Campbell, who handed out the prizes alongside the actress, said: "Not many academies in their first year have someone like a Hollywood actress to present the annual awards.

"It was a bit of a coup."

Vice-principal Janet Duggan said: "It was kept very quiet as to who was coming.

"From what I can see, she's probably more famous for Pride and Prejudice where she played Jane Bennett."

But there was also another female star of the night as Year 11 student Ksenija Nazarova walked away with the Student of the Year prize, also collecting prizes for Key Stage 4 Maths and Key Stage 4 English.

The student, who has English as a second language and is part of the gifted and talented programme, was praised for her determination and ambition.

Awards were given for achievements across all the faculties.

A series of awards sponsored by businesses including Roquette, Rockingham Motor Speedway and RS Components were given out.

Mr Campbell said: "We have had so many things to celebrate in this first year of the academy.

"The standards set already by students have been incredible and bode so well for the future."

More than 85 awards were handed out on the evening.

The prize-giving was broken up with a performance by the CBA Steel Band and a Bollywood-themed dance performance.

There was also a speech from best-selling novelist Louise Bagshawe, who sponsored the Award for Creative Writing.

She will be taking its winner, Daniel Buckland, and the winner of the Library Award, Megan Hogg, to her publishers to see the publishing process in action.
