Two James Bond`s make top ten wealthiest British actors chart

03-Aug-2009 • Actor News

In a world where American stars dominate headlines, The Times counts down the British actors with salaries to rival their US counterparts.

1. Catherine Zeta Jones (with husband Michael Douglas)
Worth: £170m
Zeta Jones is worth far more than any other British actor, mainly due to her husband's fortune. However, the Swansea born actor has starred in several high grossing films including Chicago and Ocean’s Twelve. The couple are not shy to splash their cash, spending £1.5 million on their lavish wedding ceremony at New York’s Plaza hotel.

2. Sir Sean Connery
Worth: £80m
Despite declining the role of Gandalf the wizard in the film trilogy of The Lord of the Rings, a role that could have earned him reportedly up to $400m, the former James Bond actor has claimed second place among Britain’s wealthiest actors. He has seven highly commercial Bond films under his belt.

3. Sir Antony Hopkins
Worth: £65m
Hailed as the "greatest actor of his generation" Antony Hopkins is the second wealthiest British actor. Born in Wales, Hopkins is famous for his role as depraved cannibal Hannibal Lector in The Silence of the Lambs. The franchise of the film was immense and Hopkins was the main beneficiary.

4. Sir Roger Moore
Worth: £50m
The second James Bond to feature in the top ten starred in seven Bond films including Live and Let Die and A View to Kill. Moore also owes much of his fortune to his marriage to Danish-Swedish multi millionaire Kristina Tholstrup.

5. Helena Bonham Carter (With Tim Burton)
Worth: £50m
The eccentrically dressed Bonham Carter is best known for her roles in the films directed by her partner Tim Burton including Sweeney Todd and the 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Their New York City apartment recently sold for an estimated $8.75 million.

6. Sir Michael Caine
Worth: £45m
Born Maurice Joseph Micklewhite, Michael Caine, 76, enjoyed great success throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s. His film credits include Alfie, The Italian Job and Get Carter. Caine has property in both Surrey and Florida.

7. Daniel Radcliffe
Worth: £30m
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is one of the youngest to feature in the top ten, allegedly being paid a magical £8 million for the fifth Potter film alone. With continued success in television, film and theatre and the remaining Potter films to be completed, Radcliffe is likely to climb the list higher.

8. Keira Knightly
Worth: £18m
The self-confessed workaholic is one of the most in-demand actors, with lead roles in blockbusters such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Atonement. On top of her acting credits are lucrative modelling contracts, including her work as one of the celebrity faces for Chanel.

9. Emma Watson
Worth: £12m
Although best known for her part as school swot Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, the nineteen-year-old actor has also begun modelling for Burberry for an estimated six-figure fee. Watson is soon to become a university student and expected to take a break from acting while studying.

10. Rupert Grint
Worth: £9m
Grint is another actor who has thrived from the success of the Harry Potter Films. His role as the ginger haired Ron Weasley has ranked him beside his Potter co stars as one of the youngest high earners in the industry.
