Inaugural Thrillspy International Film Festival to be held in Washington DC in early October
ThrillSpy International Film Festival has announced its inaugural festival will be launched in Washington, DC October 7 â 10. The ThrillSpy International Film Festival will showcase and celebrate the exciting genre of thriller and spy films. It is the first and only film festival in the world dedicated to the promotion of the thriller (non-horror) and spy genre. The four-day festival will bring together new independent filmmakers with fans and content distributors with an intense appreciation for the genre.
Based in Washington's Penn Quarter neighborhood, the festival will present film screenings at the US Naval Memorial Theater and the Goethe Institute Theater. The festival includes lectures, VIP socials, book signings, and tours of The International Spy Museum and the National Crime & Punishment Museum, and concludes with a semi-formal Red Carpet Embassy Awards Gala, with proceeds supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The film selections include films from around the world, from this yearâs Cannes and Sundance festivals, international award-winning documentaries, and debuts by local filmmakers. The opening night film is the 2009 political thriller âSate of Playâ, starring Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck. ThrillSpy Film Festival will also showcase local Maryland native Brian Davis' Student Academy Awardâwinning documentary âIf A Body Meet A Bodyâ and the crime thriller âStreet Bossâ by Lance Kawas. Street Boss is based on the true story of how the FBI brought down one of Detroit's most notorious mobsters. The closing night film is the Washington, D.C. premiere of âThe Champagne Spyâ by Nadav Schirman. The Champagne Spy is an international award winning documentary about a true âJames Bondâ type Cold War spy currently being developed into a major feature film.
