Dame Shirley Bassey to perform at BBC Electric Proms
Dame Shirley Bassey will perform with the BBC Concert Orchestra to celebrate 50 years of stardom as one of the highlights of the
BBC Electric Proms.
The singer from Cardiff will perform her greatest hits along with tracks from her new album The Performance.
The show at the London Roundhouse on 23 October will be Dame Shirley's only live appearance of 2009.
The BBC Electric Proms has made a mark in presenting major stars and fresh talent in an intimate concert setting.
The event should further extend the 72-year-old singer's appeal to the new younger audience she attracted with her appearance at the 2007 Glastonbury festival.
Dame Shirley says she's looking forward to revisiting her much-loved songbook whilst premiering new work.
"What I'm most looking forward to at the BBC Electric Proms is performing songs from my new album The Performance for the first time - it really will be a special moment for me."
The show will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2.
Smokey Robinson, Dizzee Rascal, Robbie Williams and Doves are among the other highlights of the Electric Proms, which take place in London from 20 to 24 October.
