No more `oldies` for me, says Dame Judi Dench

25-Oct-2009 • Actor News

Dame Judi Dench's forthcoming stage role as Titania, the queen of the fairies, in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Rose Theatre in Kingston Upon Thames, appears to have given her a new perspective on life - reports the Telegraph.

"I've no interest in playing oldies anymore," the 74-year-old actress informs me. "No, no, no. Far more fitting for the next stage [in my career] to play a slut."

It was unclear to which role she was referring. In her next film part, in the musical Nine, she plays the confidante of a film director. "Of course, one is lucky to be acting at all," she adds, modestly. "I'm happy when I have a job – any job. One is always afraid of having no work."

Dame Judi first performed the role of Titania as a schoolgirl, 56 years ago.
