Celeb optician saves day for Sir Roger Moore

14-Dec-2009 • Actor News

It's not a dilemma that you could ever imagine James Bond suffering. But the legendary Roger Moore was forced to call in some special gadgetry assistance during his brief stay in Dublin after his tinted glasses broke just before an important mission -- namely a UNICEF photocall in the IFSC.

The Diary can reveal how the thespian, who played the super spy in seven Bond movies, was left a little shaken and stirred after his spectacles broke.

But help was at hand -- celeb optician Niall McCrudden was contacted by Gerry Ryan's other half, Melanie Verwoerd, and he zoomed over to the Berkeley Court Hotel where Roger and his wife Kristina were staying.

"I went up to his hotel room and spent about an hour chatting with him and fixing his glasses for him, it wasn't a big problem," Niall explained.

"I brought my son Matt (9) along with me as he's a huge James Bond fan and he was over the moon about meeting Roger.

"He was a true gentleman. We spent an hour chatting about Ireland, soccer and mutual friends.

"His wife was telling me how she used to have an Irish penpal and was over here visiting them 30 years ago and how she had a real soft spot for the country. I got an email afterwards thanking me for everything, which was very nice."
