Epix kicks off HD service with James Bond marathon over New Year

Lionsgate is quietly marketing Epix, the high-definition pay-TV and online streaming channel it co-owns with MGM and Paramount Studios, with special inserts inside new-release DVDs, including Gamer, the sci-fi thriller starring Gerard Butler and Amber Valletta, which streets Jan. 19, 2010.

“Like this movie?” reads the insert. “See it and more at EpixHD.com.”

The flyer also touted multichannel availability of Paramount Home Entertainment’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Cloverfield, MGM’s Pink Panther 2 and Lionsgate’s Madea Goes to Jail, among other titles.

Separately, Epix, which launched Oct. 1, is offering a marathon of James Bond movies through Jan.1, 2010, including all-day screenings beginning Dec. 31.

Titles include Goldfinger, Bond Girls Are Forever, Dr. No., From Russia with Love, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Octopussy, A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights, Casino Royale, and the 1954 TV special “Casino Royale.”

Finally. Lionsgate is bowing “Weeds: Season 5” and “Mad Men: Season Three” on iTunes and Amazon Video On Demand in advance of the titles’ DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases Jan. 19 and March 23, respectively.
