'Casino Royale' freerunning star sets up UK-based Parkour school

22-Jan-2010 • Bond Style

The freerunning star of the James Bond movie Casino Royale is in Britain to teach people the art of Parkour, explains ITN.

Frenchman Sebastien Foucan has set up a training school in London, funded by Westminster Council, to promote the sport and complete his coaching certificate in the discipline.

Foucan shot to fame in his explosive freerunning performance at the start of the Casino Royale film.

Foucan said it is an interesting sport for all to try: "One of the good things is that it reconnects you with your environment, because other sports you need a special pitch to practice it. But here, your playground is your city. You see the city differently now. It's not something boring or depressive. It's good."

Eugene Minogue is the sports development manager for Westminster Council. He said the council is funding Parkour UK to lead the rest of the country in developing this alternative sport:

"(Parkour can go) all the way. As high as the Olympic Games. It's really about how we grow the sport and make sure the sport is growing in the way that a lot of people can participate and actively engage within the sport."
