Pinewood Studios to preserve movie classics
A number of classic films are set to be preserved at Pinewood Studios thanks to a new deal, reports the
Buckinghamshire Advertiser.
The studios in Pinewood Road, Iver Heath, has launched its Media Preservation, Restoration and Archive facility with a reception attended by top film industry figures from companies including Disney, Warner Bros and the BBC.
The new facility is located in Pinewood's post production suite and will provide restoration for still and moving images.
Last year, Pinewood announced a deal with Optimum Releasing and Canal Plus relating to the Canal British Library Archive which includes 1,400 classic films including the Third Man, the Ladykillers and some of Alfred Hitchcock's early work.
As part of the deal, Pinewood will provide a large amount of the film and audio preservation and restoration services for the film archive, which has been based at studios for the past 20 years.
Pinewood will start with restorations of classic films including Peeping Tom, The Railway Children and Kind Hearts and Coronets.
After the films have been restored they will be re-released in cinemas and then released on DVD.
Giles Farley, co-managing director of Pinewood Group Post Production, said: "We are delighted to have officially opened the new facilities.
"We are especially proud that our new state of the art facilities allow us to work with Canal Plus to restore many classic British titles."
