'GoldenEye 007' videogame tournament today in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA

This Sunday at Duffy's, in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, expect a nostalgic blast of third-gen Nintendo mayhem.

Duffy's is dusting off a few N64 consoles, blowing on some game cartridges and hosting a "GoldenEye 007" tournament, reports JournalStar.

"It's definitely a cult classic," event coordinator Richard Reese said of the game. "In the late '90s and early 2000s, this was THE party game. It's a dream of mine to have a big âGoldenEye' tournament."

"GoldenEye" was a gaming game-changer when it came out in 1997. Based on the 1995 James Bond movie, "GoldenEye" is still considered one of the best video games ever made. The game, which sold 8 million copies, pioneered the first-person-shooter multiplayer mode, letting up to four people at a time battle one another on one TV screen. At the time, this "deathmatch" mode was revolutionary.

"The thing about âGoldenEye,'" said Dub Wardlaw, Duffy's promotion and booking guy, "you didn't have to be a gamer to know that game or play that game or feel like you were good at that.

"Every single person I talk to about the tournament tells me, âOh, dude, I was so good at that game.' Everybody is like the best player in the world at âGoldenEye.' I can't wait to see who actually is the best player."
