Gemma Arterton finds lower budget filmmaking 'refreshing'
Gemma Arterton will never abandon low-budget filmmaking - despite carving out a career as a Hollywood actress, says
Contact Music.
The British star has found fame in blockbuster hits including Clash of the Titans and James Bond film Quantum of Solace, and she is set to appear alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in upcoming adventure movie Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time.
But Arterton found it "refreshing" to return to the U.K. to film new thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed, in which she plays a kidnap victim - and has vowed to continue to support smaller productions.
She says, "These are the sort of movies I am proud of and I will continue to make films like this. This is the sort of movie I always imagined I'd end up doing. This is the sort of movie I'd go to see in the cinema. It's basic, there's no frills with this sort of thing - it's refreshing for you when you're involved in the Hollywood machine.
"I've been very lucky in what I've been offered, and didn't know I'd get Prince of Persia and that kind of movie."
"I've been very lucky in what I've been offered, and didn't know I'd get Prince of Persia and that kind of movie," Arterton told the
BBC.
She said that while she enjoyed making blockbuster movies it was "important" to keep on making films like Alice Creed.
"This is the sort of movie I always imagined I'd end up doing," she said. "This is the sort of movie I'd go to see in the cinema."
She added: "It's basic, there's no frills with this sort of thing - it's refreshing for you when you're involved in the Hollywood machine."
In Alice Creed, Arterton plays a millionaire's daughter who is kidnapped and kept bound and gagged in an abandoned apartment.
Arterton said she was comfortable doing the nude scenes that feature in Alice Creed.
"I've not got a problem with nudity in films if it's absolutely appropriate - and it was completely appropriate in this film. I just got on with it and treated it like any other part."
Arterton said she was now thinking about her next project.
"I don't know what I'm going to do next. I've got a few months off - I'm getting married - but now I'm being more selective with what I'm going to do."
Arterton recently completed filming on Stephen Frears' Tamara Drewe film.
Based on Posy Simmonds' comic strip, Tamara Drewe will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
