Activision register 'GoldenEye' videogame domain name, reheats sequel rumours
It has not been a good week for the Activision marketing team. On Wednesday,
the title of the next James Bond videogame, "Bloodstone", was inadvertently leaked by retailer HMV in an online listing. Yesterday, the store had pulled all references, but it was too late - the gaming press had widely reported on the upcoming 007 racing game.
MI6 first discovered that Activision had registered "bloodstonegame.com" on the day the title was leaked, adding some unofficial confirmation that the 'Bloodstone' name was genuine.
Today, it has been revealed that Activision also registered "goldeneyegame.com" on the same day (April 21st), re-stoking recent rumours that their third Bond title currently under development will be somehow based on the 1995 Pierce Bronsnan movie that led to the best selling 007 videogame of all time: "
007 GoldenEye".
It was only a few months ago that an
animator listed "GoldenEye 2010 (Wii)" on his resume, fueling on-going rumours that Activision were working on an FPS follow-up to the Nintendo 64 classic.
Attempts by Rare to bring an updated port of the original "007 GoldenEye" to the Xbox 360 were
thwarted by Nintendo.
Activision's first 007 licenced title, "
Quantum of Solace", was released to coincide with the movie in late 2008.
