Sir Sean, 79, is also acting as executive producer on the movie, which will feature the voices of Alan Cumming, Alex Norton, Ford Kiernan, Greg Hemphill and Ruby Wax.

It sees Sir Sean as the kilted pensioner attempting to save a fugitive beaver from villain police and powerful lairds.

A trailer released today - which you can watch by clicking play above - gives fans a taste of the action in the film, which is now nearing completion.

Academy Award nominated Scottish composer Patrick Doyle, who worked on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Sense and Sensibility, penned the music score, and also lends his voice as a key character in the film.

Singer Dame Shirley Bassey performs the title track Guardian of the Highlands, marking the first time Connery and Bassey have worked together since the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger.

The three-minute clip sees Sir Billi racing around the Scottish countryside on his skateboard, and he even gets behind the wheel of the iconic Aston Martin DB5, made in famous super-spy films.

The US voiceover reveals: "Sir Sean Connery is Sir Billi. The kind of grandpa we all wish we had."

Sir Sean agreed to come out of retirement for the role after his grandchildren fell in love with the character form an earlier demo of the movie.

Sascha and Tessa Hartmann, the husband and wife team who behind the project, have also signed a deal with Universal Music Publishing after composing five original songs which will featured in the movie.

“We’re very excited to be represented by such a respected music industry leader that will be publishing the five original songs that are a key part of telling the Sir Billi story,” said Sascha .

“These songs have real heart and were written especially for this project. We couldn’t have asked for more than to have the legendary Dame Shirley Bassey perform our opening title track – it’s a true honor and we are delighted with the end product.”
