007's DB5 towed away with worn-out clutch
The worldâs most famous spy vehicle ended up looking like a clapped-out old banger when it broke down at a public display yesterday, reports the
Express.
James Bond fans watched in dismay as their heroâs coveted Aston Martin had to be towed away because of a worn-out clutch.
It was a million miles from the thrilling action sequences in which the souped-up carâs ejector seats, machine guns and other outlandish gadgetry were used to take on the chilling bad guy Goldfinger.
The sporty DB5 â the best-known of 007âs cars â was making its first public appearance in a decade at a midsummer event at Stoke Park, Buckinghamshire, alongside a number of other vehicles that were used in the action films. An onlooker said: âSmoke filled the air and an unhealthy noise rumbled from the engine. It was a bit embarrassing.â The 1964 Aston Martin was one of two identical cars driven by actor Sean Connery in the Bond films Goldfinger, 1964, and 1965âs Thunderball.
But yesterday it limped off for repairs before it is auctioned in London later this year.
The Aston is expected to fetch more than £3.5million when it goes under the hammer in October.
The Stoke Park Club was the site of the first confrontation between suave MI6 agent James Bond and arch-villain Auric Goldfinger and his hat-throwing henchman Oddjob.
