Daniel Craig named as James Bond #6 on this day 5 years ago

14-Oct-2010 • Bond News

On this day five years ago, Daniel Craig was officially named as the sixth actor to play James Bond in the EON Productions series.

Back on October 14th, 2005, an official press release confirmed the news: "It was announced today by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment, that Daniel Criag has been cast in the role of the legendary British secret agent, James Bond, in the highly anticipated 007 adventure thriller Casino Royale."

Arriving by speedboat courtesy of the Royal Navy, Craig joined director Martin Campbell and producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli at the press conference held onboard HMS President on the River Thames in London.

Speaking shortly after arriving, Craig said, "I'd like to thank the royal marines for bringing me in like that, and scaring the shit out of me."

Since signing as Bond, Craig has starred in two films ("Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace") and has lent his voice and likeness to three 007 videogames ("Quantum of Solace: The Game", and the upcoming titles "Blood Stone" and "GoldenEye').
