Dame Judi Dench says 'don't question my choices'
Dame Judi Dench insists itâs ânone of the publicâs businessâ why she picks her film roles. The James Bond star hates being asked her reasons for joining a movie or play â because sheâd prefer to keep them private.
âOn a film you have to sit and answer questions about what you think of the part, why you wanted to play the part and I think thatâs none of the Âpublicâs business,â Dench writes in her new book, And Furthermore.
âWhy should you know the ins and outs of everything? The joy of the theater is not really going and knowing that somebody had terrible difficulty playing this part, or why they did it. Itâs to go and be told a story, the authorâs story, through the best means possible.
âIn any case I never know why Iâve done something; itâs for lots of reasons. I want to keep a quiet portion inside that is my own business and not anybody elseâs. You donât say to a dress designer like Betty Jackson, âWhy have you made a dress like that? Why did you cut the dress like that?â Why should the public know everything?â
