Andrew Marr chats to Judi Dench about her early career (video)
In a rare interview with Dame Judi Dench, Andrew Marr starts by asking her if she had always wanted to act.
Dame Judi Dench discusses her early career; her first Shakespeare role as Ophelia and the surprised response when she played Cleopatra. She said it was the role of Mrs Brown, a.k.a. Queen Victoria, rather than M in the James Bond films that had catapulted her to superstar status in America.
The Oscar winning actress confirmed she had been approached by Clint Eastwood to play opposite Leonardo DiCaprio as J Edgar Hoover's mother in a big budget biopic about the notorious FBI director. She said she had been "thrilled" by the phone call.
Dame Judi Dench will also be appearing in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film alongside Johnny Depp and is expected to star with Daniel Craig in
James Bond 23.
