Is the new 'X-men' film reminiscent of a 1960s Bond film?

Commentators over at IGN Movies certainly think so.

The Matthew Vaughn-helmed X-men prequel, "X-Men: First Class", claims reviewer Daniel Krupa, benefits largely from echos of 007 in 1960s.

"Set in 1962 - the year of the Cuban Missile Crisis and the release of Dr. No - First Class has much in common with those early Bond films. It's set in a world of espionage and experimental technology, tacit nuclear threat and migrating hemlines. But where exactly is the SPECTRE of Bond at its strongest?"

Its "universal ramifications" and globe-trotting plot remind this reviewer of 007's adventure, coupled with the traditional Bond girls: "Her wardrobe - contractually obliged, it seems, to cover no more than 20% of her body at one time - is strictly in keeping with the risque garb of Bond's long list of squeezes".
