Original 'Diamonds Are Forever' prototype poster auctioned for £80,000
A hand-crafted poster for Bond movie Diamonds Are Forever has sold for almost £80,000.
The original artwork by Robert McGinnis was a prototype for the film imagery, but another design was eventually chosen to market the Sean Connery blockbuster, released in 1971 - reports the
Scotsman.
It sold for £79,250 at Christie's yesterday afternoon, more than three times the estimated price of up to £24,000.
The poster featured the 007 actor and two Bond girls, surrounded by action scenes - strikingly similar to the design which was adopted.
Among the other sales were two posters from the 1964 Bond film Goldfinger which went for £9,625 and a further two from 1965 hit Thunderball for £8,125.
Other top prices at the vintage film poster sale at Christie's South Kensington included a poster for 1942 Humphrey Bogart movie Casablanca which fetched £30,000.
A 1962 poster for Lawrence Of Arabia - the David Lean-directed epic starring Peter O'Toole - sold for £18,750.
In all, the sale of more than 300 vintage posters raised almost £450,000.
