Michael Wilson's tenure on 007 films overtakes stepfather Cubby

James Bond producer Michael G. Wilson has been involved in producing James Bond movies for 36 years. A fantastic record, HMSS Weblog notes, which has just trumped his stepfather Albert R. 'Cubby' Broccoli and his 35 year stint on the franchise.

Wilson famously has had cameo roles in the James Bond films off and on since "Goldfinger", but HMSS understandably do not count this toward his substantial producing duties.

But, arguably Broccoli's record was surpassed some years ago, as Wilson took leave from his legal work to help his stepfather as early as 1973. He was first invited to join the legal department of Eon Productions as early as 1972. However you measure it, Wilson's service to the James Bond franchise has certainly greatly benefitted the film series, and the current producer has been involved in 007 films at least as long, if not longer, than his stepfather. A record worth celebrating.

Michael G. Wilson was born the son of New York actor, Lewis Wilson and Dana Broccoli in 1943. As a youth in New York he studied as an electrical engineer at Harvey Mudd College, graduating in 1963.

On the Bond picture, "Moonraker" (1979), Wilson was rewarded with the role of executive producer, and continued in that role through 1981's "For Your Eyes Only" and 1983's "Octopussy". He landed the co-producer role with his stepfather Cubby Broccoli on Roger Moore's final outing in 1985's "A View To A Kill". This partnership continued through both of Timothy Dalton's outings as 007 in "The Living Daylights" (1987) and "Licence To Kill" (1989).
