Dame Judi Dench receives award in Japan
Dame Judi Dench was presented with the Praemium Imperial Award for Theatre and Film from Japan's Prince Hitachi yesterday in Tokyo.
Speaking at the event in Tokyo, she said, "I think it is very important that we came here on this particular year. I'm overwhelmed by being asked back to Japan. I feel very, very humbled when people speak of one's work, especially as in the acting profession when it's very much a personal feeling. I feel very honoured to have this."
The award is worth 15 million yen (£115,000).
The actress, famous for her role as M in the James Bond series, was one of five people named a Praemium Imperiale Laureate, alongside British sculptor Anish Kapoor, US artist Bill Viola, Mexican architect Ricardo Legoretta and Japanese conductor Seiji Ozawa.
