New spy thriller faces accusations of plagiarising James Bond novels and others

"Assassin of Secrets" by Q.R. Markham was taken off the shelf on Tuesday, according to Fox, after accusations that the author 'borrowed' from a host of classic spy thrillers.

Little, Brown and Company noted that the book had included material "lifted from a variety of classic and contemporary spy novels".

James Bond continuation novelists John Gardner and Raymond Benson were two of the primary authors said to have been plagiarized, as well as Robert Ludlum and Christopher McCrary.

Publishers Weekly had praised the book as "quirky" and "entertaining," and noted that the "obvious Ian Fleming influence just adds to the appeal."
