Pierce Brosnan Confirms It's Over
2nd February 2005
It is the moment a lot of James Bond fans have feared. Pierce
Brosnan has once and for all confirmed his days as 007 are over.
In a written statement on his official
website, Brosnan asserts that "Die Another Day" was his last
outing in the famous tuxedo, and he will not be back in Bond 21.

"I would like to thank all
of you who have supported me over the last year or
so in regard to my playing Bond. It was a decade of
my life that I will always hold dear to my heart and
a time that will never be forgotten. And you dear
friends stood by me throughout. Many, many thanks!
But everything comes to an end, and one must accept
this decision which cannot be dealt with in any other
way but with some kind of grace and knowledge that
I did the job to the best of my ability"

Despite making similar statements in television and magazine
interviews over the past few months, rumours have still circulated
that Brosnan may still come back to the role. Those rumours are
now finally dismissed with this written statement.
Brosnan's open letter comes at a time when talk of which actor
should take over is rife - with dozens of names being splashed
around by the media. MI6
reported last month that Clive Owen is the man in the frame
for 007 #6. Other than MGM canning
the release date of November 18th 2005 to "sometime in 2006"
following problems securing a director, no official announcements
have been made on Bond 21. Further complications have upset the
usual production schedule due to the Sony
buyout of MGM.
Stay tuned to MI6 for the latest updates on Bond
21 as they happen.
