'Casino Royale' has smashed the 3-day weekend record at the UK box-office for the James Bond 60th anniversary re-release season.
Daniel Craig's 2006 debut outing raked in £21,441, besting the previous record of £16,800 held by 'GoldenEye' (which itself had been double the regular week's takings).
The film exhibited on 122 screens making an average £176 per, another record that beat 'The Spy Who Loved Me's average of £127.
What makes the performance of 'Casino Royale' even more impressive though, is that Saturday 3rd September was National Cinema Day, where many venues sold tickets for just £3 (approximately half price). This meant that twice as many people attended on Saturday to make up the same revenue compared to all the other films so far.
'Quantum of Solace' is out now in UK cinemas this weekend. Its box office success will be unpredictable given the official mourning period for Her Majesty Queen Elizabth II is in progress.
