In a surprise announcement at the Toronto Film Festival, Daniel Craig was named as top-billing for Rian Johnson's new murder mystery film 'Knives Out.'
Johnson, who directed 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi,' also penned the screenplay for the film. Shooting begins in November.
Typically, this type of production can wrap in weeks rather than months, so Craig could still be free at the end of the year to start work on Bond 25, but the fact that this casting was a surprise to everyone in the industry has led some to believe Bond 25 is likely pushed into early 2019 - assuming a director can be agreed upon.
According to Deadline, "the film is best described as a modern-day murder mystery in the classic whodunit style, infused with Johnson’s original voice that informed films from Brick to Looper."
“I have been a huge fan and always wanted to work with [Daniel Craig] and as I worked on the script, trying to get it right, Ram and I were wringing our hands over who could be the detective,” Johnson said. “Then, serendipitously, we heard Daniel might have a small window, and it worked out. He’s an actor of extraordinary range, and we are looking forward to the fun of finding that modern detective, and collaborating with Daniel on creating a new Poirot.”
