Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon receives MBE

15-Jun-2024 • Bond News

Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bond will receive an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours for services to music and charity.

The group wrote and performed the title song to 1985's James Bond film 'A View To A Kill'.

"What an incredible and totally unexpected honour," he said. "It is fitting that the honour has been awarded not just for my role in music, but also for the work I've been fortunate to be involved with outside the band for some of the causes I believe in. To name but two of them, I hope this moment helps to raise awareness for the Blue Marine Foundation and the importance of their conservation work, and for Centrepoint."

After 'Octopussy' was released, bandmate John Taylor, a notorious Bond fan, spotted producer Cubby Broccoli at a party. Drunk, Taylor stumbled up to him to ask: "When are you going to get someone decent to do one of your theme songs?" The dig led to an introduction to composer John Barry. The deal was finalized when Barry got together with the band at Taylor's house and they all got drunk.
