English actor Bryan Marshall, who played Commander Talbot in the 1977 James Bond film , has died at the age of 81.
He was born in Battersea, London on 19th May 1938 and was educated at the Salesian College, Battersea and trained as an actor at RADA where he graduated in 1963.
Marshall began his big-screen career in the mid-1960s with an uncredited role in the iconic 1966 Michael Caine film 'Alfie.' He went on to land roles in films such as 'Quatermass and the Pit,' 'Mosquito Squadron,' and 'The Long Good Friday.' His television work included popular series The Forsyte Saga, Dixon of Dock Green, Z-Cars, The Saint, The Avengers, The Onedin Line, Out, The Professionals, Robin of Sherwood, Heartbeat, The Bill and Dalziel & Pascoe.
He will be best remembered by Bond fans for his turn as Commander Talbot who captains the HMS Ranger in 'The Spy Who Loved Me'. It is the first submarine audiences see captured at the beginning of the film. His crew is later freed by Bond and Talbot leads the rain on the ship's armory and the battle for control of the supertanker. Talbot is killed by a grenade during the fight.
Marshall moved to Australia in 1983 and continued acting there, including episodes of soap operas Neighbours and Home & Away. In 1989, he became the original host of Australia's Most Wanted. His work continued between Australia and the UK over the later years until his last credit in 2012 - the Australian TV mini-series 'A Moody Christmas.'
Bryan Marshall died on June 25th, 2018. He was 81.
