IMAX boasts more 'Skyfall' picture than regular cinemas
Press Release
For the first time ever, youâll be able to experience SKYFALL, the 23rd installment of the Bond franchise, one day early in
IMAX on November 8th.
If youâre one of those eager fans who will be the first in line to see the film in IMAX, itâll be a completely unique experience. This is because the IMAX presentation of SKYFALL will be specially formatted to feature a larger aspect ratio than the conventional release for the entirety of the film.
The filmmakers worked with the IMAX team in the post-production process to increase the aspect ratio of the film and designed the IMAX presentation of SKYFALL to allow audiences to see up to 26% more of the originally captured image.
Expanding a filmâs aspect ratio for IMAX is one of the reasons the IMAX experience is so different â why you feel like youâre inside the action, not just watching it. But many of you are still wonderingâwhat exactly does aspect ratio mean?
The technical term for the proportional relationship between an imageâs width and its height is called aspect ratio. A film made for CinemaScope 2.40:1, the standard in the industry, is cropped and uses only part of the image the movie camera captures.
IMAX broke the mold. Like with SKYFALL, we provide filmmakers with the ability to optimize their filmâs aspect ratio for an IMAX screen during production by shooting with the extremely high-resolution IMAX camera (capable of up to IMAX® 1.43:1âup to 40% more of the picture) or in post-production (capable of up to IMAX® 1.90:1âup to 26% more of the picture).
