Sir Sean Connery snubs Scotland`s First Minister over Tartan Day festivities
Sir Sean Connery and Jack McConnell were today involved in a bitter political bust-up after Scotlandâs most famous actor snubbed the First Ministe, according to
The Scotsman.
The former 007 star turned down an invitation from Mr McConnell to take part in this monthâs Tartan Day celebrations in America.
And a source close to Sir Sean was quoted saying the Oscar-winning actor was angry it had taken Mr McConnell two years to ask him to help in promoting Scotland.
But Mr McConnell responded by claiming Sir Sean was acting under pressure from the SNP and putting his own political interests ahead of Scotland. A source close to the First Minister said: "This is the third time that the First Minister has approached Sean Connery to assist in enhancing Scotlandâs international image.
"The First Minister is very disappointed to hear that his approach has been turned down again, but Jack McConnellâs door is always open to anyone who wants to help Scotland."
Sources were quoted saying Sir Sean believed the invite from Mr McConnell had only been issued in a bid to refute claims by his predecessor Henry McLeish that he had a better relationship with the actor.
