GoldenEye`s warbling Minnie Driver wins a record deal
Famous for her warbling rendition of "Stand By Your Man" in the 1995 James Bond filem "GoldenEye", Minnie Driver has this week signed a recording deal. Driver, who played Valentin Zukovksy's mistress, was a professional singer before taking on the big screen, and has signed a contract with Rounder Records to release a pop-folk album, Everything I've Got in My Pocket, in September.
The deal with the Cambridge, Massachusetts, based indie label marks the first U.S. recording contract for Driver, who has been singing since 15.
The British-born Driver was signed to Island Records in London before landing a key part in the 1995's Circle of Friends. That film launched a successful Hollywood career that forced her to put on hold her musical ambitions.
Driver, said to be heavily inspired by Bruce Springsteen, wrote all of the songs on Everything save one, a cover of the Boss' "Hungry Heart." The album's sound is touted as "sparse atmospheric pop and a hint of contemporary folk."
The album will be distributed via Rounder's rock-pop imprint Zoe Records.
She next appears in Warner Bros. upcoming musical epic The Phantom of the Opera, scheduled to hit theaters in December.
