MI5 spooked by knife attack

03-Sep-2004 • Bond News

Real-life colleagues of James Bond over at MI6's sister organisation - MI5 - have been spooked by a knife attack.

Two security guards at MI5's headquarters in London have been attacked by a man carrying a machete, reports the BBC.

The man was subdued by armed police with a stun gun after the attack in Thames House, Millbank, just after 1315 BST on Friday.

The attacker was taken to hospital and later discharged. The guards are in a stable condition. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A man has been arrested and is being questioned by police.

A dozen police vehicles and motorcycles were parked outside the building following the attack and the area was cordoned off.

A green rucksack, which the man was believed to have been carrying, was still lying on the steps yards from the front door.

The attacker, who was hit twice with a Taser stun gun, is white and thought to be aged around 40.

Thanks to `Seb` for the alert.
