Sir Sean Connery to attend opening of new Scottish Parliament building with the Queen

09-Sep-2004 • Actor News

The opening ceremony for Scotland's new Parliament building will be held on Saturday 9th October 2004 where Her Majesty The Queen will officially open the doors to Holyrood.

Scottish Nationalist Party supporter Sir Sean Connery will be among the VIPs at the official opening.

MSPs got their first taste of Holyrood on Tuesday, but Connery is holding off visiting the new centre for Scottish politics until the big launch day.

Connery said, "I haven't seen it completed yet. I'm saving it for the opening. I'll be there."

The parliament has been dogged by controversy, but First Minister Jack McConnell said what mattered was what MSPs did in the "stunning" building. The building came in 10 times over budget and three years late.

Thanks to `JP` for the alert.
