23-Dec-2004 • Actor News

Honor Blackman heads the host of stars coming to the Stafford Gatehouse theatre, Staffordshire, UK, in 2005 - it has been revealed by the Express & Star.

The glamorous actress and former James Bond girl will be treading the boards at the Eastgate Street venue in March for a production of Wayward Women, which looks at famous women who have changed the world.

Comedy lovers will be spoilt for choice with Ken Dodd, Jethro, and comic novelist and storyteller, Gervase Phinn, all performing.

The theatre’s director, Stephen Freeman, said: “We have an excellent and varied selection of shows this season, with something for everyone, whatever their tastes and interests.”

The Gatehouse season begins with the comedy, Stones in his Pockets, in February.

The Reform Theatre Company will return with April in Paris, following last year’s Kissing Sid James.

Local amateur groups also make their mark, with performances including Stafford Players’ production of Habeas Corpus by Alan Bennett from February 8 to 12, Veronica’s Room by Ira Levin from April 5 to 9, and The Memory of Water by Shelagh Stephenson from June 7 to 11.

MIG Production is staging Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell from March 15 to 19. A production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado from April 26 to 30 is staged by Stafford Operatic Society.

The programme also includes dance performances ranging from the European Ballet Company to Broadway-style dancers Motionhouse.

Children’s performances will feature The Teddy Bears Picnic, The Borrowers, Tractor Tom and favourites Bananas in Pyjamas.

For the 16th year, Stafford Gatehouse will also run its summer school giving children aged between seven and 18 the opportunity to work with professional directors, musicians and a choreographer.

Musical performances will include A Viennese Strauss Gala and The Marriage of Figaro.

The theatre will also be producing its own shows starting with a production from the Youth Theatre.

Thanks to `Ken` for the alert.
